How does melasma present?

Melasma is a chronic, hormonally driven pigmentation disorder — it requires a different approach to standard sun damage. We assess pigment depth and trigger pattern before treating.

  • Symmetrical brown patches — on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip and jawline — usually mirroring on both sides of the face.
  • Hormonal pigmentation — triggered or worsened by pregnancy, oral contraceptives or hormonal cycles — often called the “mask of pregnancy”.
  • Sun-aggravated darkening — where existing patches deepen significantly with even brief UV exposure or visible light.
  • Resistance to over-the-counter products — where regular brightening serums make minimal impact, or pigment quickly returns after fading.

Our Treatment Goals

What we aim to improve

Melasma needs a slow, controlled approach — aggressive treatments worsen it. Our protocol is calibrated for gradual, stable lightening that respects the condition’s nature.

  • Gently break down pigment — with low-fluence laser passes that fragment melanin without triggering rebound darkening.
  • Suppress melanin production — using tranexamic acid, cysteamine and prescription tyrosinase inhibitors prescribed for your skin.
  • Calm inflammation — with anti-inflammatory actives that address one of melasma’s key drivers — underlying skin reactivity.
  • Maintain results long-term — with strict SPF discipline, antioxidant support and quarterly maintenance sessions.

Your Journey

How does the treatment work?

Melasma is a long game, not a quick fix. We set realistic timelines, track lightening photographically, and adjust the protocol around your hormonal and seasonal triggers.

1

Skin Analysis

A medical consultation, Wood’s lamp examination and trigger history determine pigment depth and pattern — epidermal, dermal or mixed melasma respond differently.

2

Personalised Session

A 60-minute session combines a calibrated low-fluence laser pass, electroporation of tranexamic acid, and a soothing barrier-repair mask — comfortable throughout.

3

Ongoing Refinement

We re-scan and photograph every 4 weeks to track lightening, adjust the protocol seasonally, and reinforce the daily SPF and antioxidant routine that protects results.
